Heat and Manhunter Star Tom Noonan has passed away at the age of 74. The news of his death was confirmed through social media posts shared by his friends and colleagues.

The announcement was publicly shared by filmmaker Fred Dekker, director of the 1987 cult classic The Monster Squad. In a Facebook post dated February 17, Dekker wrote, “

Remembered for Iconic and Unforgettable Performances
Dekker paid tribute to Noonan’s “indelible performance” as Frankenstein’s monster in The Monster Squad, a role that became one of the actor’s most recognizable. Dekker revealed that he cast Noonan after being deeply impressed by his chilling portrayal of serial killer Francis Dolarhyde, also known as ‘The Tooth Fairy,’ in Michael Mann’s 1986 psychological thriller Manhunter.
Noonan’s work in Manhunter earned widespread praise for its intensity and restraint, solidifying his reputation as a powerful and distinctive screen presence. He later appeared in a wide range of films, including Michael Mann’s crime epic Heat (1995), further establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s most respected character actors.
In his post, Dekker also shared a personal anecdote from the set of The Monster Squad, recalling how Noonan found the heavy Frankenstein makeup uncomfortable but remained professional throughout filming.

“He found the makeup arduous and annoying… but all in all, he was the proverbial gentleman and scholar, and the world has lost a great talent,” Dekker wrote. “R.I.P. Tom. Thanks for the great work.”
