Eric Dane’s Death: Friends of late Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane are rallying support for his two young daughters following his death at the age of 53.
Dane passed away 10 months after publicly revealing his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. PEOPLE confirmed his death on Thursday, February 19.
The actor is survived by his daughters, Billie Beatrice Dane, 15, and Georgia Geraldine Dane, 13, whom he shared with his ex-wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart.
The Center of His World.
In a statement released by the family, Dane was remembered as a devoted father who spent his final days surrounded by loved ones.
“Eric spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world,” the statement read.

GoFundMe Launched for Medical Costs and Future Support for Eric Dane’s Children.
Following Dane’s passing, his close friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses and support his daughters’ future needs.
According to the fundraiser description:
“Even as his own health declined, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease. As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs.”
Dane met Rebecca Gayheart in 2003, and the two married less than a year later in Las Vegas. Although they separated in 2018, Gayheart, 54, became a key caregiver after Dane’s ALS diagnosis.
In a 2025 essay for The Cut, Gayheart revealed she managed Dane’s medical care, which involved 21 caregiving shifts.
“There are times that shifts aren’t covered, so I cover them,” she wrote. “There was a 12-hour shift recently that I could not cover. I could only do four hours because of all the stuff that the kids are doing.”
We Show Up for People No Matter What.
During a November 2025 podcast appearance, Gayheart shared how she helped her daughters understand their father’s illness.
“We show up for people no matter what,” she said she told them. “He is our family. He is your father. We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it.”
Eric Dane’s death marks a heartbreaking loss for Hollywood, but his legacy as a dedicated actor, father, and friend continues through the lives he touched.
