Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine Short, committed suicide: “It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” the Short family said in a statement to The News.

On Monday, February 23, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call from a home in the Hollywood Hills at 6:41 p.m. regarding a female. The Los Angeles County Coroner later confirmed to The News that Katherine died by suicide.
Katherine was adopted by Martin Short and his late wife.
Katherine was adopted by Martin Short and his late wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman, who died of ovarian cancer in 2010. The couple also adopted two other children, Oliver Patrick Short, 39, and Henry Hayter Short, 36.

Professionally, Katherine worked in private practice as a licensed clinical social worker. She also worked part-time at Amae Health, where she focused on community outreach, family support groups, peer support, and psychotherapy.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender and sexuality studies from New York University in 2006. She later received her master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010.

Katherine largely stayed out of the public eye but attended a few events with her father over the years. These included the afterparty for The Producers in 2003 and the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in February 2011.
She was also seen with her family at the afterparty for the opening night of Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me at Tavern on the Green in New York City in August 2006.
