According to Rolling Stone, Lilah was diagnosed after suffering a stroke. Caitlin Smoot explained that Lilah had “a very rare, aggressive type of brain cancer.” Treatment included surgery, chemotherapy, and a long hospital stay.

The family wrote: ”
After [the MRI and LP], she will receive 6 weeks of proton radiation, which will require our family to travel to [Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia]. We will be a few hundred miles from home. All donations we receive will help cover travel expenses and bills as we are still unemployed during Lilah’s treatment.”
The news gained traction when Caitlin posted a video of Lilah watching a Taylor Swift video, pointing to the screen and saying, “That’s my friend!” Caitlin further explained that her daughter calls the singer her “friend” while watching Swift’s video on her iPad.
