Actress Sydney Sweeney received the Spotlight Award at the 28th SCAD Savannah Film Festival in Savannah, Georgia, on October 27 for her role in the upcoming biopic Christy, which depicts boxer Christy Martin’s rise amid domestic abuse.
Sweeney, who co-produced the film, shared during her acceptance speech and a Q&A that the story’s themes of violence are personal and aim to raise awareness.
Early screenings have garnered praise for her intense portrayal of the resilient athlete, with the movie set for theaters on November 7.
